Project Engineer, Jenike & Johanson
Aleef Rahman is a project engineer at Jenike & Johanson Pty Ltd with a passion for solving problems in the bulk materials handling field. He has a wealth of experience in the field, with project involvements in feeder systems, hopper/bin designs, train loadout systems, and more. He has contributed to the success of many materials handling projects, working with clients to develop effective solutions that optimize their handling processes and improve overall efficiency.
Aleef understands the critical role material properties play when it comes to design and operation. Equipped with the fundamentals of materials he believes that sharing this knowledge with his clients and ensuring the information is understood is a driving motivation.
DEM and DEM-Coupled simulations are widely used to study and predict the behavior of powders and granular materials in industrial processes. DEM parameters should reflect particle-level properties, but accounting for each particle's shape, size, and surface is often impractical on an industrial scale. Instead, a coarse-grained material representation is used, requiring calibration to match macroscopic behavior. DEM parameters derived from laboratory or physical modeling will vary from theoretical values, making accurate calibration essential for reliable analysis. This presentation discusses findings and intricacies of applying physical scale modelling, material characteristics and DEM to transfer chute design.
