Port of Melbourne backs MEGATRANS2018
The Port of Melbourne, Australasia’s largest maritime hub for containerised, automotive and general cargo, has partnered with newly launched transport and logistics trade event, MEGATRANS, for its debut in 2018.
“This is the first dedicated supply chain and logistics industry conference and exhibition of its type,” explained Jason Price, Executive General Manager at the Port of Melbourne.
“The Port of Melbourne is working closely with key industry bodies like the Victorian Transport Association (VTA), the Australian Logistics Council (ALC), and the National Transport Commission (NTC), all of which are associated with MEGATRANS2018.”
“The show is the perfect platform to demonstrate the important role that the Port of Melbourne plays in supporting the Victorian and Australian economy””
Price said the Port of Melbourne recognises the potential of MEGATRANS2018 as a stage to present the Port to the highly competitive the 3PL and supply chain market.
“There are always lots of issues in the logistics industry, some of them not confined to the constraints that we have here, so we see this as an opportunity to promote the advantages we can bring to the table as a key logistics partner and extend our network.
“One of the big things we need to do is demonstrate the efficiency of our Port to large international retailers. We would like to see more national Distribution Centres here. Industrial land rentals are much lower in Melbourne than Brisbane and Sydney.”
MEGATRANS2018 is an innovative trade event that will help shape the future of freight operations in Melbourne via inclusive engagement with all relevant stakeholders, from road and rail through to air, sea and new, still emerging modes.
MEGATRANS018 will also host to the Global Shippers Forum, operated locally by the Australian Peak Shippers Association (APSA) and the Freight and Trade Alliance (FTA).
“Victoria is growing; we see the freight task getting bigger and bigger. We see a growing number of trucks servicing the Port,” Price said. “As the population grows, so too does the demand. As such, we only see benefits in having strong, vibrant, relevant industry representation.”
MEGATRANS018 will make its debut from 10 to 12 May 2018 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre and will cover the entire supply chain from point of origin to point of sale – including the wider infrastructure and logistics industry.
