Silk Logistics opens new, sustainable facility in Perth

Silk Logistics Holdings (SLH), Australian-owned logistics provider, has launched Kenwick 2, its latest 32,000 pallet Warehouse/Port Logistics flagship site in Perth, inaugurated in March 2024.

Kenwick 2 aims to achieve a 6-Star (World Leadership) Green Star Design certification, setting a new benchmark for sustainability within the industry and positioning Silk as a strong contender for the MHD Sustainability Award.

This development comes as a major step forward towards Silk’s ongoing commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives and it is looking forward to being recognised for its efforts towards consistent sustainability.

The Kenwick 2 project incorporates a wide range of sustainability initiatives, including:

·        A 200kWonsite solar photovoltaic solar system with a 100 per cent GreenPower® contract for energy that we need to pull from the grid.

·         A high-performance building façade with efficient heating, cooling, and ventilation. The ventilation is controlled using carbon dioxide sensors, and high-efficiency LED lighting is used throughout the building incorporating timers, photo-sensors, and motion sensors.

·        Low water use fixtures and waterless urinals, with rainwater collected from the office roof and reused for irrigation.

·        An Energy Management System – EMS – has been installed, and EV charging stations are available.

·        Materials selected for the building include products that are low-VOC, contain sustainable content, and were sourced responsibly.

·        As part of its sustainability strategy, the building has also made additional commitments including Green Cleaning, Groundskeeping, and Purchasing and Procurement in line with Green Star Performance requirements.

Its adjoining 5000 sqm container yard is next to rail, connected to Fremantle Port thereby also improving future carbon emission through the reduction of heavy vehicle movements via road.

The warehouse will run a fleet of new Adaptalift Lithium-Ion battery forklifts, that will be opportunity-charged throughout the day using the energy generated from the building’s solar system.
